Connection Sharing from PC/Notebook/Netbook to Lumia 800

Today, Windows Phone 7 is not support for AdHoc Connection. But if you want to share your PC/Notebook/Netbook internet connection the virtual adapter must set before our PC can act as Access Point.

If you are using PC make sure that you have wireless card, for notebook or netbook user the wireless card is a default hardware, don`t worry about it.

Check the wireless card support

Some wireless card may not support to build a virtual adapter, so it`s better to test it. Make sure that you login to windows as administrator.

  1. At windows, click start button
  2. Select Run and Type Cmd
  3. At command prompt, type

    netsh wlan show drivers

  4. If the result is “Hosted Network Supported” then you can continue to next step. If it say not support, change the wireless card to another one

Make virtual adapter

The next step is make a virtual adapter with Infrastructure Mode.

  1. At windows, click start button
  2. Select Run and Type Cmd
  3. At command prompt, type

    netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=ACCESS_POINT_NAME key=YOUR_PASSWORD

  4. Go To Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center
  5. Click at Connection: your profile name
ex: the USB modem have a profile name BBB then find connection : BBB
  6. Click Properties, and select sharing tab
  7. Check radio buttons for
    • Allow other network users to connect through this computer`s internet connection
    • Allow other network users to control and disable the share internet connection
  8. There`s a home networking connection name field at first option (..connect through this computer..), pick a name that match with new virtual adapter that we already made.
  9. Open command prompt, then type

    netsh wlan start hostednetwork

When it`s say “The hosted network started” , that mean your virtual adapter is ready to use.
  10. The last to do is connect your Lumia to virtual adapter, happy browse!
