Fix Asus Zenfone 2 “E:failed to mount/cache..” When Boot into Recovery Mode

Preparation

  • Download and install Application tool pack (ADB driver + IntelAndroidDrvSetup1.9.0 + recovery.img, boot.img + droidboot.img)
  • Download and extract Fastboot

Solve “E: failed to mount /cache (invalid arguments)….” at Asus Zenfone 2 recovery mode boot

  1. Copy recovery.img, boot.img, and droidboot.img to Fastboot folder.
  2. Turn off your Zenfone 2
  3. Boot into fastboot mode, press and hold power + volume [+] buttons.
  4. Connect device to PC / Laptop using USB Data Cable.
  5. Go to fastboot folder, Hold shift button + right click, choose “Open Command window here“.
  6. At window command, type

    fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
    fastboot flash boot boot.img
    fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img
    fastboot erase cache
    fastboot format cache
    fastboot reboot

  7. After previous step,  Zenfone 2 will reboot
  8. Wait until Zenfone 2 turn on.

Note:

This method has been test and work perfectly on Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML 4GB/32GB that use Firmware WW_2.17.40.12
