HTC 3D evo unlock Hboot 1.50, root and install Custom Recovery

This steps will not makes your HTC 3D evo become S-OFF, but it can still flashing all ROM, kernel, etc. The disadvantage from this method is you can not direct flashing from boot recovery, that mean you`ll need PC / Laptop connected with device to activate the fastboot.

Unlock HTC 3D evo bootloader

Like ussual we need to unlock the bootloader, as i say before this step will not makes your evo become S-OFF. Go to this site for unlock:

  1. Using ADB get your device ID
  2. Go to htcdev site and give them the device ID
  3. After confirmation, they will send you the unlock key

Fails? try to update the firmware and baseband with stock firmware / stock baseband from HTC

HTC 3d evo Root and Install custom recovery


  • Download and extract evo3d adb.rar, rename it to make easier when it`s need to call.
  • Download TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP), move the file to evo3d adb extract folder.


  1. Go to menu > settings > application > development
  2. Check / enable USB debugging
  3. Connect the device to PC / Laptop
  4. At windows, open the command prompt
  5. Change the work path

    cd c:\evo3d

    i was rename the evo3d adb to evo3d

  6. Copy recovery file and superuser to SDcard

    adb push recovery.img /sdcard/
    adb push /sdcard/

  7. Then reboot to bootloader

    adb reboot bootloader

  8. Wait for device reboot
  9. Install custom recovery

    fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

  10. After installation success the device will reboot and boot in recovery menu
  11. Choose Install Zip from SDcard
  12. Select
  13. Reboot
  14. Did you see SuperUser icon in application? if yes then the evo is already root
  15. Done

Flashing custom ROM, Kernel etc

  1. As explanation above, we need connect the device to PC/laptop via USB cable so make sure that USB debugging is active
  2. Copy custom ROM, kerner etc to SDcard

    adb push filename /sdcard/

  3. make it boot in fastboot and use prompt command

    adb reboot bootloader

  4. After TWRP menu come out, select Install Zip from SDcard
  5. Find file that you copy earlier
  6. Done
