Should we root Samsung Galaxy S4?
Root on android is same with Jailbreak on Apple devices. Basically, root make owner privilege to make modifications in their device system. This modification like changing the ROM, add other script or firmware and install some application that need root condition.
Before root your device, we recommend to make some data backup from your device. Just in case if an error occurs after root.
Preparation before root Samsung Galaxy S4
There are some applications and files that you need to prepare before doing this process.
- Samsung USB drivers
To ensure that Samsung Galaxy S4 is recognize by windows.
this application need to install on your PC/laptop, this application allow you to do flashing or installing applications from outside the device
- ClockWorkMod (CWM) recovery
this is the application will replace the default android recovery. The advantage of this custom recovery is the additional options that are not available in the default recovery.
- Super SU
An android application, useful to enter into the android system.
Install ClockWorkMod Recovery on Samsung Galaxy S4
First of all you have boot in download mode. Shutdown Samsung S4, then press volume down + power + home buttons simultaneously and hold about 5 seconds.
When you see the warning on your screen then release the power button. Go to next option by pressing volume up or volume down. Press volume up to proceed to the download mode.
Open the ODIN and connect your device to the computer via microUSB cable, wait until your device recognizes by ODIN (you will see a yellow box with port that used). If your device has not been recognize, try to remove and reconnect microUSB cable. Install the driver when it is necessary
In ODIN, make sure only “Auto Reboot” option that selected, click PDA button and give a file path to cofface_I9500_cwm_recovery_en_new. tar file and then press the start button
Samsung Galaxy S4 will restart, wait until you see the green box with the words “pass!”, this indicates that device flashing process is success.
Root Samsung Galaxy S4
Copy SuperSU into the memory of your device, and then turn off the S4.
Press the Volume up + home + power buttons at the same time and hold approximately 5 seconds, when Samsung logo appear release power button but still hold the other two buttons. This way you will boot into recovery mode (CWM)
Select “Install Zip From SDcard” > “Choose Zip from SDcard” > select “0/” directory > find SuperSU file that already copy in memory, select the file > press “yes” to continue the process.
This step will install the SU binary and SuperSU applications on Samsung Galaxy S4, this is necessary so your device can be “Root”
Return to the main menu and do a reboot and boot normally in to the android. You will see a “SuperSu” application installed on your system, run the application and perform a binary update.
Well done Samsung Galaxy S4 now is root.
